Sandpoint Sweeps Dual Meet08/26/2017
Sandpoint Cross Country started their 2017 season August 26th at the University of Idaho Extension Facility this year with a dual meet against Timberlake High School. The meet format was 2 races, a girls and a boys, over the 2.75 mile course. The girls started out the season on solid footing, placing 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th to win the meet 18 to 46. Katherine Kaul led the way with a 17:44 for first place, she was followed by Hannah Davidson in 18:40 for 2nd, Heather Wallace in 4th with a 19:36, Kali Scheel in 5th with a 19:42, Farli Boden in 6th with a 19:47, Niah Brass in 7th with a 19:55, and Ciera Bailey in 8th with a 19:59 to round out the top 7. The girls showed great pack strength with a solid front running in their first outing, a good sign of things to come this season.
The boys race was exciting for team scoring. Ephriam Weisz took the lead from the start, but was tracked by 2 Timberlake runners for the first mile in 2nd and 3rd. Cole Dillon cracked into their scoring duo and jumped to second 1/2 way through the race which is how it would finish. Kieran Wilder ran a very smart, tactical race to come in 5th overall, just ahead of Timberlake's third scorer. After that the next 6 runners in were Sandpoint. The final places for the top 7 SHS runners were Ephriam Weisz in 1st with a 15:58, Cole Dillon in 2nd in 16:10, Kieran Wilder in 5th with a 16:51, Garrett Peirce in 7th with 16:55, Jett Lucas in 8th with a 17:07, Tyler McNamee in 9th with a 17:15, and Peik Lund-Andersen in 10th with a 17:16. The boys won the meet by a score of 23 to 36. The boys are showing incredible depth, and are working on their mid-pack strength. "Iron Sharpens Iron".
Sandpoint will run their next meet on September 9th at Farragut State Park.
