Sandpoint Boys & Girls 2nd at Post Falls

Last week Sandpoint Track & Field competed at 2 meets. On Friday, the varsity team was in Post Falls for the Christina Finney Relays and both the boys and the girls teams placed second.

The Post Falls meet started off with the girls 4x800 team setting a new school record. The team of Katherine Kaul, YeoWon Yarnell, Hannah Davidson and Kali Scheel ran a 10:04, winning the race and beating the old record by 26 seconds. In all 6 relays medaled at the meet. The boys 4x100 relay of Suhr, Ollerton, Bassett and Witthaus placed first in 45.98, the boys 4x200 or Suhr, Barajas, Johnson and Ollerton was 3rd, the boys 4x400 team of Dieter, Soderberg, Woodward and Lund-Anderson was 3rd, and the boy 4x800 team of Soderberg, Christman, Woodward and Lund-Andersen was 2nd. On the girls side, the 4x100 team of Martin, Klopman, Wickboldt and Bowen placed 2nd.

In the running events, there were 7 meet medalists and 31 overall Personal Records. Tyren Witthaus was 3rd in teh 100, running an 11.9. The top girls 100 runner was Jaelyn Martin in 13.55. Spencer Bassett set a PR in the 200, placing 4th in 24.04, and in the girls 200 Valerie Wickboldt was 3rd in a PR of 28. Hannah Davidson was 2nd in the 400 in 1:03, while Kyle Almeida ran his first race of the season and placed 5th in the 400 in a PR of 55.85. Katherine Kaul won the 800 in a 2:27.57, followed by a 4th from teammate YeoWon Yarnell in 2:33. Peter Soderberg was the 8th in the boys 800 with a PR of 2:13.17. Finan Lund-Andersen ran a 4:34 for 3rd in the 1600, while also placing 2nd in the 3200 with a 10:11. Teammate Ephraim Weisz was 5th in the mile with a PR of 4:44, and 4th in the 3200 with a 10:40. For the girls, Niah Brass was the first Sandpoint finisher in the 1600 in a 5:45, while Kali Scheel and Heather Wallace teammed up for a 3rd/4th finish in the 3200 running 12:50.



The field events were also strong, starting with Maddie Morgan winning the Triple Jump in a PR of 32'5", and placing 2nd in the Long Jump with 15'4". Teammate Sharon Rowe was 2nd in the Triple Jump in 31'6". On the boys side Spencer Bassett won the Long Jump in 20'3.5", and placed 2nd in the Triple Jump in 40'3". Cole Hooper was 1st in the Pole Vault, tying is 13' PR, and Slade Rucker was 3rd in an 11'6". Elaine Huang was 3rd in the High Jump in 4'6", Zach Alamillo was 2nd in the Discus with 125'10" and 4th in the Shot put in 40'3". Victoria Aylward was 3rd inthe Shot Put with 30'1.5", with teammate Reannan Jackman 4th just 1.5 inches back. Reannan was 6th in the Discus with a PR of 83'6".

At the Priest River meet, both JV and Varsity athletes competed to get another meet in. Paige Davidson had a great meet, setting a 25 second PR in the 1600, running a 6:12. She also ran a :53 in the 300 hurdles for the first time ever, placing her in the top 5 in the region. Top top it off she tied her PR in the Pole Vault at 7'. Teammates Mesa Keating and Chloe Pierce also set PRs in the 1600, running a 6:30 and 6:45. For the boys, Garrett Pierce medaled with a 3rd place finish, running a PR 5:06.23. Elaine Huang placed 3rd in the High Jump with a 4'6", Zach Alamillo was 3rd in the Discus with a 120'11.5" throw, Cole Hooper was 2nd in the Pole Vault in 12'. In the 3200 Cole Dillon was 4th in 10:56. Kailin Shaffer and Jena Burgstrom both set PRs in the girls 100 and 200, while Christian Niemela did the same for the boys.

Sandpoint will have 2 meets next week. JV Regionals is at Lake City High School on Tuesday, and the Timberlake Invitational is on Friday.
