Girls 5th, Boys 8th at State Championships10/29/2016
The Sandpoint Girls placed 5th at the State Cross Country meet, tying for forth but but missing on the 6th runner. Twin Falls won the race scoring 40 points, Preston was 2nd with 79, Bishop Kelly 3rd with 106, Idaho Falls and Sandpoint both had 109. The girls were lead by Junior Katherine Kaul, who placed 14th overall(out of 93 runners) with a time of 20:13. Also earning State Medalist Honors (top 20 finish) was Hannah Davidson in 15th. Rainey Woodward was 29th in 21:01, Dana Beaty was 40th in 21:17, Heather Wallace was 43 in 21:23, Niah Brass 51st in 21:41 and Sharon Rowe 53rd in 21:44. Sandpoint once again ran an outstanding team race, but traveling up 3000 feet in elevation was a struggle that sent 3 of the girls to the medical tent after the race and was too much to overcome. It will be another strong State meet next year as both squads bring back 5 of their varsity 7.
The Sandpoint boys team took 8th place at the meet. Cole Dillon was the first runner in in 28th place, Fin Lund Anderson was 31st, Clay Rasmussen 36th, Ephraim Weisz 60th and Riley McGinnis 72nd for the scoring 5. The boys finish was below their goals but still in the mid pack. Next year the goal is a Poduim finish, and there are 19 under Varsity Standard who are chomping to help get them there.
The team will celebrate their season at the awards banquet on Wednesday, November 16th at 6 PM and the Sandpoint High School.
