Woodward, Graham double as Regional Champions

The Sandpoint Boys Track team won their third straight Regional title this weekend with 74 points, narrowly defeating Moscow and Lakeland by scores who had 70 and 41 points respectively. The girls team was third behind Moscow and Lakeland by a score of 82, 58, 45. The distance team earned 33 points on the boys side (including the Medley relay), and 22 points on the girls side. 20 athletes earned a trip to State, which takes place next Friday and Saturday and Donna Larson Park in Boise.
For the girls, Mikhaela Woodward repeated as 1600 Regional Champion, and added a new 800 Regional Championship to her list of accomplishments after earning runner up in the 3200 on Friday night. She ran an 11:58, 5:14 and 2:22 in her three individual events, and earned her 8th Regional Championship medal. Hannah Davidson placed 2nd in the 800 with a time of 2:22.74, Grace Bradley was 2nd in the 400 with a 1:04.59, Lauren Orr was 3rd in the 400 with a 1:05.78, and Claire Pierce was 4th in the 3200 with a 12:39.38 to round out the medal winners on the distance side. Also medaling were Claire Keener with 2nd place finishes in the 100 and 200, Janice Aylward placed 1st in the shot put, Paige Dumars was 3rd, Makenzie Tillberg was 3rd in the Discuss and Taylor Ward was 4th, Saydee Brass was 4th in the High Jump with a 4’8” jump, and Madi Schoening was 2nd in the Long Jump. The team of Mikhaela Woodward, Hannah Davidson, Grace Bradley and Lauren Orr also placed 2nd in the 4x400.
On the boys side, Jacob Graham was a double winner, taking home the Regional Champion in both the 1600 (4:38) and the 3200 (10:14). Mark Kennaly also had a solid meet, winning the 800 in a 2:01 and taking second in the 400 with a 51.2. Sam Powell placed 2nd in the 3200 with a 10:23 and 4th in the 1600 with a 4:45. Kenny Kovalchuk placed 2nd in the 800 with a 2:04, Matt Cloud was 3rd in the 3200 (10:31), and Finan Lund-Andersen was 4th in the 3200 with a 10:32. For the second straight year the 3200 was swept 1 through 6 by Sandpoint. Other Regional medalists were Kyle Perry in the 100 (2nd place) and 200 (4th), Sawyer Seley with a 2nd in the High Jump, Cole Hooper with a 2nd in the Pole Vault, Lane Rasmussen with a 4th in the Pole Vault, Kaleb Merrill with a 2nd in the Long Jump and Tyler Harris with a 2nd in the Triple Jump. The Shot put had a sweep with Carlos Collado, Sam Palmer, Nate Dillon, and Josh Suto going 1st through 4th, and the Discus had Sam, Carlos and Nate take 2nd, 3rd and 4th. The Medley Relay team of Kennaly, Kovalchuk, Perry and Merrill also won with a time of 3:39,
The distance crew had 3 PRs in the 400, 5 in the 800, 10 in the 1600 and 8 in the 3200 at Regionals! It has been an incredible season, thanks to all participants. The banquet will be Thursday May 20 at 7:00 in the SHS Commons.
