Sandpoint Sweeps Regional Meet

The Sandpoint Cross Country team swept the 4A team titles at the Regional Cross Country meet at Riley Creek today. Starting the day off was the Girls Varsity race, where Rainey Woodward continued her strong season by placing second in a time of 19:28. She was closely followed by Mikhaela Woodward, who was 3rd and ran a 19:36 on her first race back from injury. Sharon Rowe was 4th, right behind Mikhaela running a 19:37 and bettering her #9 All-Time top 25 mark. Claire Pierce was 6th (20:32 - #15 All Time), Cori McClelland 8th (20:41 - #18 All Time), Hannah Davidson 9th (20:43 - #20 All Time) and Emily Marshall 12th. The girls won the team title with 23 points over 2nd place Moscow who scored 36. Lakeland was 3rd with 79.

In the next race the boys followed the girls example and won the 4A Regional title with a score of 24. Moscow was 2nd with 47, and Lakeland 3rd with 67. Jacob Graham was 2nd overall, leading the boys with a 16:51. Chris Cordova continued racing well, running a 17:02 for 3rd place (#19 All Time). Sam Powell was 4th with a 17:09, Kenny Kovalchuk was 6th with 17:25, Matt Cloud 7th with 17:30, Andy McGinnis 8th with 17:44, and Mark Kennaly 9th with 17:52. The pack has been the strength of the boys team all year, and today they brought home there second consecutive Regional title by relying on that strength.

The third race of the day was the JV Girls, and Sandpoint again showed its depth and speed by winning with a score of 18 in the 4A race. Lauren Orr led the way by finishing first with an outstanding time of 21:08, and moving to #25 on the All Time list. Dana Beaty was 2nd with a 22:08, Grace Bradley 4th in 23:12, Erin Meek 5th in 23:18, Lindsey Ballard 6th in 23:19, Karlee Williams 7th in 23:20, and Megan Frazier 10th in 23:50 to round out the medalists.

The boys JV finished the day in similar fashion, winning the team title with a perfect 15. Leading the way was Finn Lund, who ran a 18:16 for first place. Reilly Wolfe was 2nd with 18:23, and Clay Rasmussen was 3rd with 18:32. Daniel Radford was 4th with a 19:07 and Quinn Donnelly 5th with a 19:08 to round out the team scorers. Also medalling were Riley McGinnis in 9th with a 20:04 and Kyle Almeida with a 20:07.


Today was a great preparation for the Varsity teams heading to State, and a fantastic finish for the JV runners who are done for the year. State is at Eagle Island on November 1st.
