Lakeland Relays 2014

The Sandpoint Track Team competed at the Lakeland Relays this Tuesday, and the distance team earned 7 firsts and 3 seconds at the event.
Highlights on the evening were the 2-person mile, which in the boys race saw a 19 year meet record fall to Matt Burgstahler and Sam Levora. The 2 ran a 3:46, 10 seconds faster than Preston Martin and Chris Blood ran it 19 years ago for the record (Preston and Chris are SHSXC alumni). In the girls race, Mikhaela and Rainey Woodward were 3 seconds off of the meet record, running a 4:44 and winning by over 30 seconds.
Other great races were the 1st place distance Medley teams of Lily DeAragon, Rainey Woodward, Bree Jones and Sydney Foster for the firs, along with Nathan Schwartz, Mark Kennaly, Alan Orr and Jacob Graham for the boys. The girls 4x400 team of Bree Jones, Dana Beaty, Cori McClelland and Megan Frazier won their race, and Megan Frazier, Katie Nicolich, Cori McClelland and Dana Beaty came back to win the 3200 (4x800 relay). Woodward, Woodward, Burgstahler and Levora also teamed up to win the coed 4x400 at the end of the meet.
The Lakeland Relays are always a fun event, and lead into Championship season. This Thursday is the District I Meet of Champions at Post Falls, with Regionals following next Friday at Coeur d’Alene.
