Sam Levora Signs on to run for WSU

PULLMAN, Wash. – Three standout prep seniors have signed National Letters of Intent to attend and compete in track and field for Washington State University in the 2014-15 seasons, Cougars Head Coach Rick Sloan announced Tuesday. The three signees are Jonnie Green, a sprinter from Ephrata, Wash., Zach Smith, a sprinter from Bremerton, Wash., and Sam Levora, a distance runner from Sandpoint, Idaho.
"We are very pleased with the young men who have committed to Washington State University,” Sloan said. “Sam has shown tremendous potential with great times and will be a great addition to our cross country and distance corps next year.
Sam Levora has accumulated eight varsity letters as a distance runner at Sandpoint High in Sandpoint, Idaho. He was a four-time participant in the Idaho state 4A Cross Country Championships with 32nd and fifth place finishes as a freshman and sophomore, and back-to-back runner-up finishes as a junior and senior. Levora competed in the Nike Cross Northwest (NXN) Regional meets with 17th-place finishes in both 2012 and 2013. On the track, Levora’s state 4A Championship meet performances in include third place finishes in both the 1600m and 3200m races as a sophomore, and runner-up finishes in 1600m and 3200m races as a junior. His lifetime-best 1600m time is 4:19.30, run at the 2013 Idaho 4A-5A Regional Championships and his 3200m PR of 9:32.24 was clocked at the 2013 Pasco Invitational. He plans to pursue a history major at WSU.
"We are really excited to have Sam run for the Cougs next fall,” Cougar cross country coach Tim Riley said. “I feel Sam will fit very well within our culture both athletically and academically and I feel is one of the most talented distance runners to recently come out of Idaho.
