Sandpoint Wins Girls and Boys Regional Titles

The Sandpoint Girls and Boys Cross Country Teams won the 2013 Region I Championships this Thursday. The girls team beat a competitive Moscow team by a score of 29 to 31, with Lakeland 3rd with 77. The boys also beat Moscow by a score of 29 to 38, with Lakeland 3rd with 61. The course was a hilly, technical course through Phillip’s Farm, just North of Moscow.

The girls team was led by Junior Mikhaela Woodward, who placed 2nd and ran a course PR 22:14 over the difficult terrain. Next was Freshman Rainey Woodward, who placed 4th. Sydney Foster was 5th and Cori McClelland 6th to put the top 4 girls as Regional Medalists. Claire Pierce was 12th and an important 5th runner for the Bulldogs today. Bree Jones and Lauren Orr were the 6th and 7th runners for the team.

For the boys team, Sam Levora once again led the boys with his 3rd Regional Championship. He ran the course in 17:44, 16 seconds ahead of his next 5A competitor and nearly 30 over the next 4A runner. Sam Powell ran an outstanding race by placing 3rd, and Alan Orr was the other Regional Medalist in 4th. Chris Cordova and Jacob Graham rounded out the top 5 for the boys in 9th and 10th. Matt Cloud and Adam Bourn were the 6th and 7th runner for the team.

The girls JV team was 2nd overall with 4A/5A combined, and first among 4A schools, even though only 5 runners stepped to the line! Leading the way was Jacey Lawson, who ran a brilliant race and was 1st for 4A schools. Karlee Williams was 2nd, Dana Beaty 4th, Lily DeAragon 6th, and Mackenzie Wolfe 10th. The team scores were Coeur D’Alene 15, Sandpoint 58, Moscow 71 and Post Falls 93.

The boys JV team was 1st overall with 4A/5A combined. Mark Kennaly led the way for Sandpoint, placing 1st in 4A and second overall. Andy McGinnis was next in 2nd place. Reilly Wolfe was 5th, Kenny Kovalchuk 6th and Clay Rasmussen 7th in the race. Team scores were Sandpoint 46, Coeur D’Alene 51, LC 61, Moscow 110, Lewiston 125, Lakeland 60 and Post Falls 162.


State will be at Russ Freeman Park in Idaho Falls on November 2nd. Good Luck!
