09/21/2013
The Sandpoint Cross Country Team took part in the 2013 Bob Firman Invitational this weekend at Eagle Island State Park in Boise. In the Elite Race, Sam Levora ran a 15:59, which was enough to place 16 in the highly competitive race which contained runners from 8 States and 109 teams. It was a good pre-cursor to the State meet, as well as NXN Regionals that will be on the same course in November.
The Girls team placed in the top 10 in the meet, and placing well amongst Idaho school. They were led by the 18th place medalist performance of Mikhaela Woodward who ran a 20:26. Also running well was Rainey Woodward who ran a 20:50 to place her #15 on the all-time 5k list. Sydney Foster ran a 20:17, Cori McClelland a 21:47, and Lauren Orr had a large PR by running a 22:43 to round out the top 5. Emily Marshall ran a 23:11 while working back from a calf strain.
The boys team was running with Sam Levora (Elite Race) and Sam Powell who was home sick this weekend. They were led by a very strong race by Alan Orr, who ran an 18:10 and tied his PR. Jacob Graham was next in an 18:27, followed by Mark Kennaly (19:18), Andy McGinnis (19:19) and Andy McGinnis (19:20). The boys ran a bit flat, placing 24th.
For the JV, both teams were running with at least 5 runners so the team scores suffered but there were some very good individual performance. Naomi Bradley continued to improve in her freshman season, running a 23:23 and making the Varsity standard. Dana Beaty also ran a very solid PR of 23:57, and Jacey Lawson improved from her first 2 races with a 24:11. In the boys JV race, Matt Cloud ran a 19:18 in a very bold race, followed by Daniel Radford and Quinn Donnelly (20:24 and 20:44). It was a good team trip this weekend, and Sandpoint won't be in action until October 4th and will spend the next 2 weeks getting healthy and training.
