William Johnson Sandpoint Invitational

The Sandpoint boys team placed 4th at their home meet this weekend with a solid performance, scoring 107 points. They were paced by Sam Levora's 16:18 4th place performance. Matt Pfeifer, Chris Jones and James Cartwright packed up to run 18:03, 18:04 and 18:17 respectively, and the scoring 5 was rounded off with Spencer Marks at an 18:56.
The girls team continued to impress, showing pack strength and continued improvement. Syndey Foster was first for the girls in a 21:03, which moves her to number 16 on the all time SHS XC list. Jenny Van Ooyen was next in 21:10 and moved her way up to 19th on the all time list. Becca Cloud (22:09), Jacey Lawson (22:09) and Paula Paños (22:46) rounded out the top 5. The girls placed 5th in the meet.
In the JV races, freshman Andy McGinnis broke 20 minutes for the first time ever, putting him in contention for a Varsity spot at Regionals, and Liz Kovaluch ran a 24:02, also potentially moving her into a varsity spot at Regionals. Both JV teams placed 3rd in the meet.
There were over 28 PRs this weekend on the scenic course, making for a very successful day. The meet was dedicated in memory of teammate Will Johnson who passed away in December of 2009. The team's next race will be Regionals on Thursday October 20th at Post Falls High School. The first race starts at 2:20 PM, check the site schedule for driving directions.

Training can be a lonely endeavor, that's why your goals are so important. They kick you out of bed and don't accept excuses. When the day comes to achieve your goal, you have to honestly ask yourself, 'Did I do everything I could'. A true athlete can always answer yes, until that time this is just a hobby.
